Hello Gentle Reader! This is your reviewer bestie. Here are THE KNOWS if you plan on coming to the Set Steak & Sushi -When you pull up to the entrance outside it will look like a hotel (not your usual self parking) as the restaurant is located inside to the right . Parking is VALET, but if you wish you can park to the side near fashion island mall, but it's best to VALET. -Dress: Best come in a semi casual to dressy attire, there is an outdoor area with a cozy ambiance, (a PLUS is there heated lamps for when it cools down and IF requested you may ask for a blanket to keep you warm) -Food/Drinks: were yummy! Enjoyed the Toro Toro Sushi and the shareable appetizer dishes. Also tried the shell dessert as shown in the picture 3/5 not too sweet I would recommend and come back!
This is a small and private restaurant inside Pendry hotel located close to Fashion island. The restaurant is beautiful with a very romantic outdoor dining space. The food presentation matched the aesthetics of the dining room space and was truly a work of art. However, to be honest the food was just mediocre but the experience did make up for some of it. Went with a few friends and was able to try a few picks from their lunch menu. Had the following: 1. Bluefin Tuna Pizza: Chef's kiss. Best dish/appetizer I've tried here. Please order. You won't be disappointed. 2. Lamb Lollipop: Light flavor and well cooked. Not gamey at all. Good for appetizer. 3. Wagyu Beef Carpaccio: Honestly it had no flavor and the Wagyu was mediocre. Not worth it. 4. Surf and Turf: No particular flavor. Was not worth it. 5. Gochujang Miso King Salmon: supposedly flavored with Korean Gochujang (Korean red pepper paste) and served on a hot stone pot, similar to Korean Bibimbop. Phenomenal presentation but had no flavor. Couldn't appreciate the Gochujang flavor at all. However it did feel very healthy with minimal seasoning. Overall didn't feel it was worth the price. Saw they also served sashimi for dinner and a Wagyu feast that looks like it can feed a volleyball team. Would like to come back to try it one day.
I adore the setting of this restaurant located in the Pendry, one of the finest hotels around. Stepping into the restaurant immediately sets the tone with its vibrant atmosphere. The decor is stunning and transports you to another world. Beyond its beauty, what truly stood out was the exceptional service and the remarkable talent in the kitchen. I must acknowledge Chloe and Demetrius for their outstanding service; Chloe guided us through the menu with meticulous detail, while Demetrius ensured our glasses were always full and our table was perfectly managed between courses. The food was simply outstanding. Each dish was impeccably prepared with flavors that were perfectly balanced and expertly seasoned. Highlights included the Baked Scallop, Lamb Lollipops, Lobster Tempura, NY Strip, and Baked Potato. It's clear that immense care and skill went into crafting each dish. Overall, dining here was a memorable experience that exceeded expectations and we cannot wait to come back!
Probably my favorite spot. Came here for a date night and the outdoor area is soo pretty! The food came out perfect and delish that we ate them all!! Cocktails were great and service was just as great. Definitely recommend this spot and Hotel!!!
Had a reservation and got seated promptly. We were asked if we wanted outdoor seating, which we accepted. Our server took our drink order swiftly. For appetizer, we ordered bluefin tuna pizzas, bang bang shrimp, and 1/2 duck. The appetizers were good, but I especially enjoyed the bluefin tuna pizza. The espresso martini was also well made. For my entree I ordered steak frites. I expected the server to ask how I wanted the steak frites cooked, but she didn't. I assumed maybe they have a set doneness, but when I received my steak frites I definitely did not expect well done / medium done. It was too done for me. The chimichurri was good, but I also felt that the steak itself lacked seasoning. If the steak frites were made medium or medium rare it would've been 10x better. I would definitely come back for the bluefin tuna pizza. I'd give the other entrees a try. I am just disappointed in the doneness of the steak and since they cut the steak, they should've seen how done the steak was. I am still giving this restaurant 4 stars though because I enjoyed everything else.
Set Steak and Sushi offers an incredible dining experience with a delightful fusion of flavors. The food is simply outstanding, with the sushi and steak sandwich standing out as personal favorites. However, the real star of the menu is the pizza tuna tartare - it was so phenomenal that I ended up ordering two more! The restaurant boasts a large outdoor patio, providing a pleasant and spacious setting for a meal. The service was good, with attentive staff ensuring a smooth and enjoyable dining experience. To top it all off, the prices are reasonable, making Set Steak and Sushi a great value for the quality of food and service provided. Highly recommended for anyone looking to enjoy a fantastic meal in a great atmosphere.
Honestly, I'm normally very skeptical of restaurants I consider "trendy" and go into the dining experience with a much more critical view but believe me when I say Set Steak & Sushi delivered! From the inviting dimly lit ambiance to the service we received from our awesome waiter Sheriff Mike to the delicious dishes we tried, Set was the perfect spot for our date night. We started with the lamb lollipops based on the reviews I saw from previous patrons and it was divine! Normally I don't order lamb because I hate the gamey taste lamb from most places has but this was succulent, juicy, and bursting with flavor! 10/10 recommend this dish. We then moved onto the seafood dishes including the PNB roll as well as the Chutorro. Both were fresh and solid choices on the menu. Then came the main entree which we chose the dry aged NY strip at a perfect medium rare. The steak was cooked to perfection with nice grilling on the outside and a juicy pink center on the inside as we like to eat our steak. The chimichurri elevated the dish and the whipped potatoes rounded it out. For dessert, we tried one of the most unique desserts I've ever had. A white chocolate conch filled with dulce de leche and surrounded by a crunchy coconuty concoction. The presentation of this dish was spectacular and I enjoyed the non-typical highlight of white chocolate which you normally don't see. Overall, my conclusion is that some places truly deserve the hype surrounding them and Set is a prime example of that. We'll for sure be back for another date night soon.
Came back to Set and had a way better experience than the first! We mainly stuck to seafood for this visit and was not let down. FOOD Caesar Salad 4/5: Amazingly refreshing and the extra large croutons were a bonus. Bluefin Pizza 4/5: Served on a thin crisp slice. Very airy, crispy, and so easy to eat. French Fries 3/5: Just okay. Truffle Mac & Cheese 4/5: The cavatappi pasta choice was legit and baked perfectly al dente. The dish did not skimp on the truffle. Specialty Nigiri Flights 4/5: We tried all 3. (Chutorro, King Salmon, Kanpachi) Decently sliced potions and well dressed. I would order this again. Don't forget to get your parking ticket validated!
Located inside the beautifully appointed Pendry hotel. SET, is a real treat. They have a gorgeous outdoor patio with Café lights and tons of heaters . Very dog friendly. we chose to sit on the inside which was so lovely, perfect lighting great music.. The staff members were definitely on point . The only thing that I really didn't care for were the fact that all the waitresses were dressed like Catholic schoolgirls, super short shorts, which made our dining experience feel cheap. And it's not a cheap restaurant. We really enjoyed a couple of the appetizers. The grilled octopus was phenomenal and the bluefin pizza was a real taste sensation . The cocktails are very nice. We enjoyed the salmon with Korean sauce. That was my favorite. Of course, when you have a special occasion, they bring out their sparklers on the fresh and delicious cheesecake.. They have valet parking
Came here to celebrate besties bday and it was a 10/10 experience! There were 4 of us and we over ordered. The sushi set is meant to be shared, it might look like it's not that filling but trust me the slices of sashimi are thicc. The presentation is so fun, and really elevated the experience. I forgot what our favorites were but remember we said we would order it again. The steaks were really good as well, we got 3 different cuts plus an additional steak because we didn't think the sushi would be enough. The appetizers were amazing as well, highly recommend the beef carpaccio and the octopus.
